Editorial Standards
How we research, verify and publish.
Independence
NASIOU is an independent editorial publication. Our writers select destinations based on merit, not because a tourism board has paid for placement. We do not accept payment in exchange for positive coverage, and we do not publish disguised advertising. If a piece is sponsored, supported by a press trip or includes affiliate links, that relationship is declared in the article header in plain language.
Research process
Every destination piece begins with primary research: visits in person, interviews with local residents, hoteliers, restaurateurs, conservation officers and tourism authorities, and reading of the local press in its original language wherever possible. Statistics, opening hours, prices and travel times are checked against at least two independent sources and re-verified before each republish.
Local voices
We commission writers who live in the regions they cover whenever we can. When a piece is written by a visiting journalist, it is reviewed by a local contributor before publication. Names, place names and culinary terms are spelled as the community itself uses them, with a transliteration only where useful.
Corrections
When we get something wrong, we say so. Corrections are appended at the foot of the article with the date of the change and a short description of what was updated. Material changes to a destination - a hotel closing, a road washing out, a route being suspended - trigger an update notice at the top of the article rather than a silent edit.
Responsible publishing
We weigh the impact of coverage. A village of two hundred people does not need a feature that funnels twenty thousand visitors a year. Where we believe extra attention would harm a place, its residents or its environment, we either decline to publish, write with deliberate vagueness about exact locations, or focus on the nearby town that is better equipped for visitors. This is not censorship - it is a duty of care.
